cliffnote.me ("the service") generates short, AI-written summaries of books. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
What the service is
You search for a book and we generate a single-page "cliff note" of its ideas using AI language models. Each cliff note is a brief commentary and study aid — not the book, and not a replacement for reading it.
AI-generated content — no guarantee of accuracy
Summaries are produced automatically by AI and may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong, including confident-sounding mistakes. Don't rely on a cliff note for academic, legal, medical, financial, or other important decisions. Verify anything that matters against the original work.
Acceptable use
- Don't use the service to break the law or infringe others' rights.
- Don't attempt to overload, abuse, scrape, or circumvent the rate limits, budgets, or security of the service.
- Don't try to generate content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, or otherwise harmful. We run automated moderation and may hide or remove content and block access at our discretion.
The shared library & links
Cliff notes you generate are added to a public, shared gallery and get a public link anyone can view. Don't include anything you consider private. We may remove any content at any time.
Intellectual property
Books, titles, and cover images belong to their respective authors, publishers, and rights holders; cliff notes are independent summaries and commentary. cliffnote.me is not affiliated with or endorsed by any author or publisher. Cover images and book metadata are provided by Open Library. You may use and share the generated cliff notes for personal, non-commercial purposes.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. The service may change, break, or be discontinued at any time without notice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, cliffnote.me and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any decisions made in reliance on AI-generated content.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
